In April of 1996, former BMX World Champion Troy Lupcho decided to pursue a childhood dream of opening his own bike shop. The dream soon became a reality when Altitude Cycle opened it’s doors for business that same year. Within three years, growing pains lead to a new location with room to grow. Troy’s vision of the perfect shop was taking shape. All that was needed was a place to ride. Construction of something bigger and better was underway: Single Track! After all, what good are incredible bikes for your customers if they don’t have a place to ride them?

In a feverish pace, mile after mile of single track was being built and the word was getting out. Not only was there a killer bike shop in town, but there were some killer trails! The trail network continued to grow, and the need for bigger and better brands in the shop did too.

In 2003 Altitude Cycle moved to its current location. The sales floor doubled in size and the selection of inventory grew as well. A local trail guide was now available. Word traveled fast about Altitude Cycle and Vernal’s single track. Soon riders were traveling from all over to get a taste of the trails and a feel for the shop. Build it and they will come.

2007 led to more expansion. The service area doubled its size and a patio was built out back giving customers and riders a like a place to take it all in.

Altitude Cycle is now on it’s 16th year of business and Troy’s not finished yet! At 44 years young, Troy continues to race, build and maintain local trails, and stay passionate about the one thing he loves the most: cycling. When asked during an interview with Bike Magazine, “What do you enjoy the most about riding your bike?” Troy simply replied, “It just makes you giggle!”
